I woke up this morning thinking about the importance of prayer and how I believe we as a human species for the most part has the concept wrong. I was asked yesterday by a family member to meditate on an incident involving another family member who was faced with a legal issue and if I knew what was going to happen. Kind of got me thinking about this thing we call prayer and even meditation. It kind of took me aback by thinking that they thought my own meditation was in the same lines of foretelling the future or predictions. I guess this person just did not fully understand what meditation was truly about, or why I do it. They really only knew the concept of prayer. So as you see, this got me thinking and laughing the same time of the two powerful practices we as humans have in our personal arsenal of spiritual tools.
So, here is my concept of prayer to start off with. I often hear that most prayers are a supplication to God and yes, I thought this way in the past as well, until I heard and experienced the practice another way. In fact the word pray merely means to ask earnestly, beg or entreat. One can look this up themselves on the internet. So I have observed how many people pray. Our society has taught us since the early times, to ask the Divine for help and assistance through prayer. Giving us the idea that we are less than and not worthy of the good graces of God/Spirit that is already divinely rightfully ours. Many prayers are also done only when something is needed and we beg or bargain with Spirit to grant us a miracle or healing. “Okay God, if you do this or that I promise to be good, go to church more or whatever you want me to do.” My friend, the God that I know needs nothing from us and we need nothing in return. There is no give or take or deals to be made. If God needed something from us, then does this not make the Divine less majestic, powerful or omnipotence? God the Divine I feel has one role, to Love and to continue to create without bias. You see, each one of us is made in the image and likeness of Spirit. That being said as written in John 14:12 of the Holy Bible, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing and they will do even greater things than these …” This verse I feel is saying that we all have the divine power to do many great things and there is no need to ask or again, supplicate. Have faith, believe and know that it is already done. As I like to say, a healing is truly a revealing of what we on our human level needs to learn from and forgive of others and ourselves. We are no less than another, we all have the same and equal opportunity in life as anyone else, true the environments of life can be different, but in the end we are all on equal grounds. Therefore, to pray is to never supplicate, but to merely appreciate. Be grateful and give absolute thanks always in all ways. Knowing, that there is something always to be learned from, to be closer in spirit to the Divine.
Now the concept of meditation as I see it, there is many ways to do this and yet not one way is the right way. This process is either done in solitude, in quietness, in a group setting, guided by words of another or even music. There is no right or wrong. How I see it, it is just another form of prayer, a communion with the higher power of your choice, God, Spirit, Divine, Guides, Angels, Prophets, Nature, etc. Again, there is no right or wrong way; it is a connecting with the Almighty Source, in and around each of us. Yes, you can ask for guidance and direction to see in your own minds eye what is the best possible choice in any matter. Given or not, it is up to each of us to be open to any revelation given. Again, this is not asking for the Divine to do something, but to converse for a solution to what is best for all concerned. Yet again being very open and thankful in all matters at hand. We are given our own power and direction on this physical plane to understand and heal our own issues. As it is said, “God helps those that help themselves.” True, we first must do our part and then know that God is always in all our activities large and small. Spirit is as close to our needs and being as hands and feet. We all must believe, trust and have faith. In addition, I also see meditation as an addition to prayer and often times, they are really one in the same.
So in closing, prayer and meditation are indeed a very powerful tool to us, however if we understand that both are to be of communion and not just to beg or ask. Realizing that we are already powerful and spiritual beings already and have the ability to create and change many things on our own path, thus changing others by just being an example. Giving gratitude always in all ways will charge the Angels, Guides, or the Divine of the most high to act for the highest good of for all concerned.
With absolute Peace and Abundant Blessings Always.
